Garment Care: Knitwear
Make your knitwear look great and last longer
1. Wash less.
The more durable the garments fiber (such as wool and synthetics), the less frequently it needs to be cleaned. Where practical, we recommend airing your garment.
2. Read the label
Before you start anything, check the labels to determine the fabric composition, recommended care and if it has to be washed by hand or taken to the dry cleaners.
3. Wash by hand
Fill a basin or tub with cool water and a small amount of mild detergent or wool wash, gently agitate to ensure garment is completely saturated. Let the sweater soak in the suds for about five minutes.
4. Rinse
Thoroughly rinse the garment until it’s free of detergent. It may take several rinses for the water to become clear and free of suds. Without wringing, remove as much water as possible by squeezing.
5. Drying
Roll the garment in a towel, pressing firmly as you go. Next, lay another dry towel down on a flat surface. Place the sweater on the dry towel and reshape the sweater into its original form. Keeping the garment flat through the drying process will reduce stretching.
